The collection consists of 2 albums and 1 box of approximately 3000 photographs (4 x 3 cm.-26 x 21 cm., b&w, some col.) and approximately 3000 negatives taken by Eugene Tetinek. The photographs chronicle Tetinek's 63 years in Alaska. A significant number of photographs document the 10th Air Rescue Group, particularly their rescue mission at Mount McKinley to recover the wreckage of a crashed airplane carrying a congressman's son. The photographs include images of pre-World War II Fort Yukon, Alaska Natives, a church at Russian Mission, a Fort Yukon roadhouse, and the steamship "Yukon." Topics of the photographs include military and civilian aviation, fishing, mining, dogs, surveying, fish processing, and rescue missions. Locations include Russian Mission, Adak, Marshall, Big Lake, Tanana River, Nulato, Knik River, and Mount McKinley.

Eugene Tetinek was born in Bern, Switzerland in 1905. He immigrated to the United States in 1912, settling in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1932, he came to Alaska in search of work and arrived in Fort Yukon that same year. At that point he bought a book on photography and began to document his experiences with his camera. He remained in Fort Yukon until 1934. Tetinek lived on and off in Marshall, working in the mines, before moving to Russian Mission in 1946. He worked in Adak at one point, and spent thr...
